Best of …..2010

December 15th, 2010

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to share some of my highlights from 2010, now that were counting down the days till the big man arrives.

Best Song

I know technically the song came out on an album late last year, but The Sunshine Song from Jason Mraz’s Beautiful Mess - Live on Earth CD/DVD has got a lot of listens from me this year, just diggin the lyrics and the effortless simplicity of it all. So well put together, I love it.

Best Album

This was a hard one, a toss up between Train’s Save Me, San Francisco and The Script’s new album Science and Faith, both absolutely amazing albums, gonna give it to Save me, San Francisco by a nose, great song, after great song, after great song.

Best Gig

‘Train’ Live at The Powerstation in June. I’m a long time fan, with all of their albums in my collection, one of my favourite bands, so stoked they finally came to New Zealand. Never thought it would ever happen and man was it worth the wait!!! They are back in Feb 2011, in Auckland, get your tickets now, you wont regret it!!!

Best Cover

Jamie Cullum does a mean version of Rhianna’s Don’t Stop The Music on his latest album The Pursuit. Just brilliant, check it out!

Best Sporting Moment

Has to be the All Whites last minute extra time goal in the FIFA World Cup to get a 1-1 draw with Slovakia. Thank you, Winston Reid.

Other Highlights

Singing Loyal at the top of my lungs at half time in the World Cup matches at 2am with a bar full of proud kiwi sports fans.

Meeting Rob Thomas in Sydney, tried to play it cool, but failed …a bit. Haha

Going on my first Tour, Thanks Most FM

Tim Finn - Going off on the Winery Tour with a rousing rendition of I See Red. Still. got. it.

Artist I still can’t get enough of…

Matt Nathanson, I stumbled across a live album of his at Real Groovy last year and went online and bought all his albums, still playing them regularly, looking forward to another album due out early next year… check out Matt Nathanson - At The Point, you’ll be hooked.

Looking forward to in 2011

Matchbox Twenty’s New Album. What can I say. Big Fan.

Hitting the road - Look out Wellington and Auckland, I’m heading your way.

Lastly thanks to all of you for your support this year, hope to see you next year. Have a safe Holiday Season and a Merry Christmas!!

Love Ryan

Introducing …..EDSEL PYRE

September 22nd, 2010

I’m massively excited about having Edsel Pyre opening for me at Powderoom next month, check him out on facebook, and come see him at the gig - making some awesome sound. Had the pleasure of hearing some of the new tracks a few weeks back. Gonna be an awesome set. Don’t miss it.

Thank You Dave Dobbyn

September 16th, 2010

Just went to The Acoustic Church Tour stop last night at St Andrews Church in New Plymouth, Dave Dobbyn rocks the party, that rocks the party, and give it up for the dukes, what amazing harmonies. Came home last night and wrote a full song, something that has become very hard over the last while, nothing like live music to get the creative juices flowing. Thanks Dave. I owe you a song.

FIFA WORLD CUP

June 23rd, 2010

Hey guys and gals,

Just spent 2 very late nights watching the All Whites get two amazing draws against top quality opposition during the last week. Another big game in the early hours of this Friday morning - 2am. Get in behind our boys and see if we can get them to the second round. If you want to join me I’ll be watching it at Peggy Gordons in New Plymouth, with a few other hardcore supporters, giving our support and singing our lungs out to Dave Dobbyn’s ‘Loyal’ at half time, Gotta love being a Kiwi!!  See you just after Midnight . Go The All Whites!!!!!

NZ MUSIC MONTH 09!!!

May 1st, 2009

Well it’s that time of the year again… NZ Music month is upon us again and for 31 short days we revel in what is a broad and multi talented NZ music scene. So over the next few weeks you may hear more than the usual amount of opportunities to support local musicians… I urge you to grab those opportunities with both hands… buy an album, check out a gig, write a review or even do something as small as telling a few friends about some cool NZ band or muso that you just found out about… every little bit helps us make more music, which in turn gives you guys more music to choose from in the future… Were all in this together… Gotta Love being a Kiwi, and gotta love NZ music!!

Much Love,

RC

Writing

April 20th, 2009

the-beauty-lyrics

Its nice to get back to writing new material, a great way to process ideas that just happen to pop into my head. There’s something about words scribbled across the page in frantic handwriting that gives me hope. Hope that I’ve grasped my idea fully, hope that I’ve conveyed it the right way and hope that it means the same to you guys as it does to me. I’m currently in the process of finishing a new song. The pieces are all there and ready to go, its just a matter of extrapolating the idea a bit further. It’s called THE BEAUTY and I’m hoping you’re gonna love it.

Take it easy,
RC

Take it easy
